Martyn Smith was born and grew up in the enchanting land of Cornwall.
This magical landscape was an influencing backdrop for the aspiring conjurer. Surrounded by myths and legends such as King Arthur, pixies, goblins, knockers and even Jesus walking the ancient land, something was bound to rub off on the Cornish magician.
At the age of five Martyn became interested in the art of magic. A discarded Paul Daniel's Magic Set that was given to his brother was opened one boring day. The young Martyn got immediately hooked and a new hobby was born. All through his childhood Martyn bought magic tricks to entertain people with his pocket money. He performed his first magic show at the age of eight to his fellow classmates in primary school. At this age he started inventing tricks for himself and was beginning to develop original magic from the contents of his pencil case.
Martyn performed his first public stage show at the age of twelve. Throughout secondry school he entertained at many trade shows, children's parties, old people's homes, holiday parks, hotels and restaurants.
At the age of fourteen Martyn worked in the joke and magic shop in Falmouth. At weekends he would demonstrete magic tricks, jokes and perform his own material. This was a great training ground for his next job at Big W, the Woolworths superstore, which he took at the age of sixteen while studying at college. Here Martyn sold the Marvin brand of magic tricks as well as entertaining customers.
By the time Martyn was eighteen Martyn had worked with dozens of companies. During university while studying film he worked his special brand of magic at weddings, corporate functions and yet more trade shows, private parties and restaurants.
At nineteen Martyn Smith attended the first UK three day intense magic masterclass hosted by Jeff McBride and Eugene Burger from the United States. Not long after this course Martyn dropped out of university to enter the 'real world'. Martyn started writing a revolutionary book on mathematics, due to be released next year.
Martyn decided to focus working on new material, researching and writing his book and writing a television series. In this time Martyn worked various occupations. Ranging from working in a holiday park to a delivery driver and working in a factory for a year.
After two years, only performing occassionally, mainly for charity while testing material Martyn is now back as a full time magician. With a brand new show and the most cutting edge, original material Martyn has used his experiences to fuel his magic. Martyn Smith is truley better than ever and has made sure that the hard work that he has put in over the years means his form of comedy magic is unparralled. Martyn is working on many exciting projects, alongside regularly performing so watch this space!
